plays for the first time at the Getty Center. Tiburon comments
that walking around the mountaintop campus amid the sea of
white travertine is “like
being in heaven.”

2004: Conjunto Jardín participated in the
3rd annual Encuentro de Jaraneros de California. Libby Harding
was one of the principal organizers of this groundbreaking
event that drew 1,000 jarocho aficionados and curiosity-seekers
to the plaza at Olvera Street for more than 8 hours of nonstop
jarocho (and a little huasteco) music. Tim Harding
and legendary harp maestro Alberto de la Rosa both sat in
with CJ, just before Tim was honored for his contribution
to the teaching and diffusion of son jarocho in the U.S.
December 2003: CJ participates in Christmas
Eve holiday spectacular at Dorothy Chandler Pavilion (L.A.
Music Center), former home of the L.A. Philharmonic. Televised
on local PBS station KCET.
October 2003: Back to the Ford for big Dia
de los Muertos show
July 2003: Conjunto Jardín, Conjunto
Hueyapan and others in jarocho gala at Ford Amphitheatre
June 2003: Conjunto Jardín is nominated
for Best Latin Artist in L.A. Weekly Music Awards.
June 2003: Live Oak Festival, near Santa
Barbara, CA. Mainstage MC and respected musical wild man Joe
Craven is converted; he later actually buys a copy of Floreando
at the CD sales tent. Zapateado dance workshop led by Luis
and Maritonia Garcia is hailed by festival organizers
as “the best workshop we’ve ever had.”
April 2003: CJ participates in 2nd Encuentro
de Jaraneros de California.
March 2003: Floreando debuts at
#9 on CMJ’s Latin Alternative airplay chart and takes
up residence in the top 10 for most of the spring. See one

February 2003: Floreando, Conjunto
Jardín’s second CD, is released.
September 2002: Conjunto Jardín debuts
new material from upcoming CD at Fandango Jarocho concert
with Son de Madera and Mono Blanco (John Anson Ford Amphitheatre,
Hollywood).
July 2002: Northern CA tour including return
to California WorldFest, Grass Valley, CA
April 2002: Conjunto Jardín participates
in first Los Angeles Encuentro de Jaraneros.
June 2001: Conjunto Jardín receives
significant grant and other opportunities via acceptance
in California Arts Council Multicultural Artist Development
Program (2001-2004).
May 2001: CJ performs with Mono Blanco at
Angeles Bohemios Cafe, Los Angeles; workshops with members
of Mono Blanco
April 2001: Putumayo World Music releases
compilation CD Putumayo Presents Mexico, which features
Conjunto Jardín’s “La Bruja” from Nuevo Son Jarocho.
March 2001: Workshops with members of Tlen-Huicani,
Los Angeles
February 2001: Conjunto Jardín participates
in Encuentro de Jaraneros, Tlacotalpan, Veracruz, including
special benefit concert at Teatro Netzahualcoyotl also featuring
groups Mono Blanco, Son de Madera, Siquisirí, and
Estanzuela.

Son Jarocho draws audience of 3,000 to Grand Performances
at California Plaza, downtown Los Angeles; special guests
include Tim Harding, Larry Saunders, Ciro Hurtado.
August 1998: Conjunto Jardín’s
first CD, Nuevo Son Jarocho, is released.
July 1998: Conjunto Jardín plays to a sold-out
House of Blues, West Hollywood, opening for Colombian superstar
Carlos Vives. First time working with Luis and Hugo Garcia
of El Club Veracruzano de California. Aggressive in attitude
and absolutely rhythmically assured, their full-costume zapateado
electrified the crowd, “parting the waters” on
the packed HoB dance floor!
July 1997: Conjunto Jardín debuts
at Caribbean Festival, John Anson Ford Amphitheatre, Hollywood.
Receives glowing review in the Los Angeles Times
by Don Heckman.
